The Drava exhibition has been renewed

The renewed natural history exhibition of the visitor center in Barcs-Drávaszentes was opened officially. The investment was implemented within the framework of the LIFE project "Wise water management along the Drava in order to preserve river and floodplain habitats".

The Drava River is a priority target area of ​​WWF Hungary; habitat development and preservation is carried out with our partners in several programs. At the same time, information on these activities and their significance is dissemniated.

One of the important attractions of the visitor center of the Danube–Drava National Park in Drávaszentes is the exhibition opened in 2008. The exhibition presents comprehensively the Drava River and the wildlife surrounding areas. The technical development realized in the latest decade required the the update of applied techniques in the exhibition. Similarly, the changes in the needs of the visitors made necessary the reconsideration and modernization of the exhibition.

New touch-screen devices showcase the most typical species of amphibians, birds and mammals of the area; in addition to the description and photograph of each species, their sounds can also be heard. Kids can improve their knowledge in a playful way with the help of interactive touch screen devices, a memory game, a puzzle and the animal footprint game. New installations help to meet the fauna of meadows and swamps characteristic along the Drava river.

Habitat models showing the river’s surroundings, billboards showing fish living in the river, and an aerial-based map on the floor have undergone a complete overhaul. 28 animal preparations of the exhibition were cleaned and preserved and amended with 31 new preparation.

The exhibition can be visited on working days.
