We observed Sava freshwater snails near Vízvár
At the beginning of October, 2022, we conducted another field trip by the Drava river, where we could observe hundreds of Sava freshwater snails.
One of the Drava populations of the protected Sava freshwater snail (Holandriana holandri) lives on one of the not functioning river regulation artefacts near Vízvár. To avoid possible negative affects on the freshwater snail population, we decided not to demolish this artefact in the project.
The Holandriana holandri is hard to observe when water levels are high, because it makes the approach of the snails' habitats difficult from the river bank. After the severe drought this summer, low water level on the Drava allowed us to observe the snails during our field trip.
