Field visits along the Drava are successful

In addition to their main purpose, field trips along the Drava provide additional results.

We regularly conduct field trips along the Drava to monitor work and studies in project sites and plan future interventions effectively. During the trips, the experiences are documented in detail and later the records worth for public interest are published.

The field trips resulted in new discoveries, new sites of plant species become known along new river sections. One of the largest herbaceous plants in Hungary, the protected giant hog fennel, was found near Vejti and was known only along the upper sections of the Hungarian section of the Drava.

Less pleasing is the appearance of the mock strawberry in the middle of the Lankóc Forest. This Southeast Asian species has so far been mostly known only in urban grasslands and settlements in Hungary. Its appearance in the protected area of the Lankóc forest is the result of its introduction by forestry works. It is important to monitor and eradicate the population so that we can protect the valuable parts of the forest from an aggressively spreading alien species.
